Thirukovilur

Thirukovilur is a historic town in the Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu, known for its spiritual significance and ancient temples. The town is located on the banks of the Thenpennai River and is closely associated with Tamil Saivite and Vaishnavite traditions.

The Ulagalantha Perumal Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is one of the most prominent landmarks of Thirukovilur and is revered as one of the 108 Divya Desams. This temple is also known for being the meeting place of the three great Alwars Poigai Alwar, Bhoothath Alwar, and Pey Alwar who composed several devotional hymns here.

Thirukovilur is also home to the Veeratteswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is one of the Ashta Veeratta Sthalams temples that commemorate the heroic deeds of Lord Shiva. The town is rich in cultural heritage and serves as a spiritual destination for both pilgrims and tourists.
